Toyota’s 24-Hour GT5 Challenge: Impressions from AUS Motor Show [UPDATES]
Wednesday, October 20th, 2010
Editors from Kotaku Australia were invited to participate in Toyota’s 24-Hour Gran Turismo 5 Challenge at the 2010 Australian Motor Show, and have already shared their impressions from the event. Even though they were admittedly casual players, they enjoyed it quite a bit:
Maybe it was the occasion, maybe it was the race environment, or the fact that the race kinda meant something, but we found the Gran Turismo 5 experience a very satisfying one – and we have a renewed excitement for the game.
Read their full impressions here. Unfortunately (and, perhaps, unsurprisingly), there was no mention of a day/night transition, weather, pit-stops, or anything else new. As of writing, this is the only article I’ve found describing this apparently low-key event. If you were at or participated in the virtual endurance race and have anything to add, please let me know.
UPDATES: A few more videos and impressions from the event are starting to roll in. Here’s a few impressions from reader Joshua:
I wasn’t involved in the GT5 endurance event, I did have a few runs on the pod
with the FT86 on Rome. As for the demo, and after playing the Best Buy demo in the US, the physics are the same between the 2. They are a big improvement over the GT5 TT demo, with a noticeable focus on tyre grip, and weight transfer. The graphics are seamless, vivid and i’m positive it was holding 60fps the whole time.

Video from during the competition, while the auto show is closed (thanks, Jhonatas!):
